How it works

LC-MS/MS (also known as liquid chromatography triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry) is a method to separate, quantify and identify complex mixtures.  The HPLC is used to separate the compounds, the first MS filters the separations to be able to detect and identify components, and the second MS is used to further refine identifications.

You’ll find references for LC-MS/MS use throughout the US Pharmacoepia (USP), including these chapters and monographs that specifically call for LC/MS (Identification and Assay):
  • General Chapters: <1163> QUALITY ASSURANCE IN PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOUNDING
  • General Chapters: <1226> VERIFICATION OF COMPENDIAL PROCEDURES
  • General Chapters: <736> MASS SPECTROMETRY
  • USP Monographs: Desmopressin Acetate
  • NF Monographs: rAlbumin Human
  • USP Monographs: Gonadorelin Acetate
  • USP Monographs: Vasopressin

Beyond the USP, there are a number of tests we can perform for you with this equipment, including:

  • Raw Material Characterization
    • API
    • Excipient
  • Impurity Identification
    • New raw materials
    • OOS investigations
    • Manufacturing excursions
  • Degradant Identification
    • Stability samples
    • New drug applications
  • Quality Control
    • Qualification of standards
    • Validation of analytical methods
    • Routine testing for molecules that cannot be detected by other methods

Other common lab tests can be performed with Mass Spectrometry.  If you have any questions about our LC-MS/MS testing capabilities, or would like to discuss method transfer, please contact us. You can also request a quote or complete your sample submission paperwork online. We look forward to working with you!
